We all know the easiest way to fight sun damage is to stay out of the sun. Prevent damage before it occurs! While that’s a hard thing to do here in Texas, we’ve included a few tips on how to be preventative against sun damage. If damage has already occurred, learn how we can help erase the physical appearance of those dark spots!
- Protect your skin from sunrays, regardless of skin tone or family history.
- Use a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. Apply 15 minutes before going outside and reapply at least every two hours.
- Be stylish in a wide brimmed hat and sunglasses to block UVA and UVB rays.
- Seek shade and protection, but still wear sunscreen.
- Watch out for reflective rays from sand, water or snow. Rays can increase your risk of getting burned.
- Sunrays are the strongest between 10am and 4pm. Plan your outdoor time accordingly, if possible!
- To make sure your sunscreen is most effective, store it in a cool place and check it’s expiration.
- Drink water and keep your body hydrated! Proper hydration allows your body to sweat and maintain the right body temperature.
- If you do get sunburned, take a cool bath, moisturize, and drink lots of water.
